A crisis is simply defined as an “unexpected change.”
While the scope of crises varies considerably, ranging from major calamities such as fires or floods, to day-to-day snags of all sorts, it’s most often the “mini crises” that challenge business leaders because they are more frequent in occurrence and still demand immediate attention from people who are almost always very busy running their enterprise.
In situations like these, which require renovation or restoration expertise, it can be difficult to quickly find a solution provider, as the general contracting firms who have the necessary skills tend to be focused on considerably bigger projects and longer timetables. Fortunately, there are exceptions…
When You Least Expect It…
A nearby hospital was faced with an unanticipated crisis when the foundation of one of their facilities had slowly settled and then, suddenly, resulted in the seepage of water through a rear doorway.
Despite the small amount of space affected, the “fix” was complex because, in addition to the rapidly increasing rate of water flow and the need to replace the doorway, excavation, realignment, and an elevation change were also necessary.
A different type of time-sensitive challenge was recently faced by an administrative team when the company’s sudden acquisition of a new client required them to increase their processing staff by fifty percent.
Where would they put everyone? Their site was located in an urban setting with little room for expansion or modular space. Not only were they cramped for space, but they also lacked breakroom, kitchen, or storage areas. The situation was further complicated because corporate was ready to reassign team members to the site very quickly!
