Nearly 2.3 million workers are exposed to respirable crystalline silica at work, including about 2 million construction workers, and 840,000 are exposed to levels exceeding exposure limits.
OSHA has issued a Final Rule to protect workers from exposure to respirable crystalline silica, which they expect will save more than 600 lives and prevent over 900 new cases of silicosis each year. It is also projected to provide net benefits of about $7.7 billion annually.
