An Idea for Your New Year’s Resolution List

One of our recent newsletters focused on “preparedness,” and noted that a 2016 national household survey revealed that more than 75% of those surveyed did not have supplies set aside in their homes for disaster, and less than 50% had a household emergency plan. Similarly, the SBA released findings that many businesses also lack such a plan, and an estimated 25 percent don’t open again after a major disaster!

As a result of these and similar facts, in Oct. 5, 2018, President Trump signed the Disaster Recovery Reform Act into law.

These reforms, which acknowledge the shared responsibility of disaster response and recovery, aim to reduce the complexity of FEMA and build the nation’s capacity for the next catastrophic event.

As 2019 winds down, maybe incorporating a disaster plan into our New Year’s resolutions is a good idea!
